The Rockford area lost 2,300 jobs with unemployment rising to 5.1% over the past year as manufacturing + transportation and other sectors contracted, according to new data released July 23. The statewide report showed mixed job growth with gains in Chicago, Peoria, and Champaign-Urbana.

Motorcycles, therapy dogs and a community lunch took place Saturday at Kegel Harley-Davidson during the Dogs and Hogs Fundraiser, which benefited the Rock River Chaplains' Association. The fundraiser (supporting first responders and their families) aimed to raise awareness of chaplain services.
The Rhythm of the Heart Music Festival returned for its fourth year Saturday in Loves Park where four bands performed and about 3,500 people enjoyed free music, food trucks, vendors & fireworks. Mayor Greg Jury praised the sponsors for keeping the community event free and engaging.
