- ➤ Northwest Illinois Area Agency on Aging plans to convert the former River Valley Community Church on E. State St. into a senior center for adults 55 and older using city, private, and state funds. A City Council vote on the $300,000 funding is delayed until Jan. 26 amid location concerns. - ➤ Bella, a small chihuahua missing since New Year's Eve 2020, was reunited with her Texas family on Jan. 3 when Winnebago County Animal Services and Care for Pets traced her microchip (a volunteer flew her back to complete the reunion). WIFR
- ➤ City Council approved Spider on Quinta (1111 Fifth Ave) as a new Midtown event space run by the Rubi family. The venue will offer events for all ages while housing DRX’s showroom offices, and it is set to open soon after receiving the special-use permit and liquor license. Rock River Current
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Velvet Robot Coffee Lab in Rockford is reducing its hours and will be open only on Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. as owner Justin Carner refocuses on outstanding customer service and community events (including Kiddie Raves) to reconnect with locals. WIFR

- ➤ The Temptations and The Four Tops will perform in Rockford on Friday, May 1 at Hard Rock Live with doors opening at 7 p.m. Tickets will be on sale with a local presale starting Wednesday, Jan. 7 + the tour commemorates 60 years of the hit 'My Girl.' WIFR
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Rockford City Council delayed votes on three key economic development proposals during its Jan. 5 meeting, including a $250,000 plan to reopen the former Gunite factory, a $4 million incentive for News Tower’s redevelopment and a $2.7 million package for the Watch Factory * votes will be reconsidered next week. SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Packers and Bears will compete in the NFC Wild Card game on Saturday, Jan. 10 at Soldier Field in Chicago with a 7 p.m. kickoff; the game streams on Amazon Prime Video and local FOX (for Chicago and Milwaukee) and NBC (for Green Bay) stations air it. WIFR
