- ➤ Stroll on State will continue through 2028 following a new three-year partnership between GoRockford and UMB Bank—this announcing deal follows a record snowy 2025 event that drew 15,000 attendees and now invites more local business support. Rockford Register Star
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Today, the Rockford Area Arts Council awarded $60K in grants to 25 groups across Boone, DeKalb, Ogle and Winnebago counties. Supported by the Illinois Arts Council Agency + the city of Rockford, the funds will support diverse arts programs that boost cultural access. Rockford Register Star
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The REA launched a hotline for parents to voice concerns to the RPS superintendent as contract talks stall. The union said community support remains strong and will host a call-of-action today at 6 p.m. in the boardroom at the RPS administration building with further bargaining on Feb. 5. WIFR
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Monday, Rockford City Council approved $200K funding for a new McDonald’s at 4103 West State St to spur economic development and create about 50 to 60 jobs. Some residents worry the project may worsen food access while others welcome the investment (local advocates included). WIFR
- ➤ City Council approved plans Monday to convert the former Rockford Lithuanian Club at 716 Indiana Ave into The Copper Lantern, a renovated venue for weddings and quinceañeras. - ➤ City Council approved $300K to help the Northwest Illinois Area Agency on Aging convert a former church (20,000 sqft) on East State Street into a senior center for adults 55 and older.
