  • The YMCA of Rock River Valley took over management of the Harlem Community Center in Machesney Park as the two nonprofits prepare to merge and share resources for long-term sustainability. City leaders support the move to keep trusted community services running.  Rock River Current

  • A Rockford resident accused a moving broker of withholding her $420 deposit after booking a state-to-state move; she filed a police report while he said a contractor issue delayed the refund and he was working to resolve it.  WIFR

CULTURE NEWS

  • Zeno Camera performs live in Studio A this week — the session features their new EP Syc-amor-e with vocals, guitar, bass, and drums, and viewers can watch the performance via video and streaming services.  Northern Public Radio

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Two Rockford high schoolers from Keith Country Day School are set to perform six songs at New York's Carnegie Hall on Sunday, Feb. 8 — part of the Honors Performance Series that gives them a chance to shine on a world-renowned stage.  Northern Public Radio
  • On Feb. 5, the U.S. Department of Education’s History Rocks! tour at Genoa-Kingston High School—organized with 40 conservative groups—was marked by local teachers’ concerns about safety and transparency as students remained on campus after dismissal. State Sen. Chesney opposed any schedule changes to address these concerns.  Rockford Register Star
