  • YWCA Northwestern Illinois honored six women and awarded five scholarships at its Leader Luncheon today, where keynote speaker Linsey Davis (a two-time Emmy-award winner) discussed equity and community impact.   • Rockford City Council approved plans Monday night for the city’s first 7 Brew drive-thru coffee shop at the southwest corner of East Riverside Boulevard and Bell School Road; no timeline for construction has been announced yet.  Rock River Current

  • The Stifftones performed live on WNIJ on March 5 at 6:55 p.m., talking about their new record Existentialism on Main St. Folie a Deux; husband and wife duo Shaun and Rachel Stief explained how touring in a 1996 Cadillac hearse — a nod to their journey — shapes their sound.  Northern Public Radio
  • Rockford Area Arts Council hosts the Rockford Area Arts Awards today at Maddox Theatre at Rockford University, starting with a 6 p.m. social hour, a 7:15 p.m. awards program and a 9 p.m. after-party as it honors local creative talent including native Robert Greenblatt.  WIFR
  • Comedian Charlie Berens will perform two shows at the Coronado Theatre on Saturday, Mar. 7 in downtown Rockford. The comic, known for his Midwestern humor, will bring lively entertainment to one of his favorite local venues.  Northern Public Radio

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Winnebago County Community Mental Health Board awarded $1.6M to nine local groups to boost mental health services for underserved residents — the funds came from a half-cent mental health sales tax.  Rock River Current
  • Rockford resident Mark Schandelmeier underwent a routine colonoscopy where OSF HealthCare removed three precancerous polyps, potentially averting colon cancer. OSF HealthCare will host a colon cancer awareness event (featuring an inflatable walk-thru colon) on Wednesday, March 11.  WIFR
