- ➤ Rockford celebrated its 50th annual St. Patrick's Day Parade Saturday as local marching bands, dancers, and community groups brought residents together by marching through Midtown and downtown. The festivities ended at Prairie Street Brewing Company with live music, food, drinks + family-friendly activities. WIFR
- ➤ Community members joined the annual Shamrock 5K Beer Run and online auction on March 14 at Sportscore One, 1288 Elmwood Rd to raise funds for Nik's Wish for young-adult cancer patients - the run featured five beer stops and a post-race indoor party until 3 p.m. WIFR
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Hundreds of middle and high school students tested their skills in the annual Science Olympiad event at Rock Valley College (RVC) on Saturday, and leading teams will advance to the state tournament at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign in April. WIFR

- ➤ Former Rockford Metro high school standouts will compete in games during the week starting Monday, March 16. Matchups are scheduled through March 21 at various local venues — details include opponent teams and game times. Rockford Sun
