  • On Thursday, a Rockford family’s new home caught fire six days after moving in—firefighters found that a garage fire had spread to two other areas, leaving the Hollands displaced and most of their belongings destroyed.  WIFR

  • Eb-Books, LLC in the Retail Trade industry filed one H-1B petition in 2024 in the Rockford Sun publication area and received full approval based on USCIS data — this filing was the only one in the sector and matched the previous year's number.  Rockford Sun

CULTURE NEWS

  • Rockford Symphony Youth Orchestra held its free Spring Chamber Concert at First Lutheran Church on Sunday with 15 students performing for an audience of 100. The group will perform a two-hour concert on May 4 at Belvidere High School and auditions for the 2025 to 2026 season are scheduled for May 31.  WIFR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Illinois Department of Revenue warns taxpayers that mistakes in names, social security numbers, dates, or math can lead to delays, rejections or penalties if not fixed by the April 15 deadline. Filing electronically with direct deposit may get a refund in about four weeks—check for errors before you file to avoid problems—state officials advise.  WIFR

  • A report from AAA shows that 47% of cannabis users say the drug has little impact on their driving and experts stress that messages focusing on personal responsibility and real-life scenarios may help improve road safety — findings that could guide future safety campaigns.  WIFR
