- ➤ Businesses in Rockford’s River District can apply for a Downtown Business Signage Program that provides professionally designed blade signs and A-frame sidewalk signs at a reduced cost—companies pay 30% while the River District Association covers 70%. The program requires eligible firms to apply online before 5 p.m. April 8, with selections announced by April 16 and signs installed by Memorial Day weekend. WIFR
- ➤ Rockford firefighters are expanding their business with a new 5 Alarm Coin Laundry at 290 N. Mulford Road that will open April 1—this renovated site now has 39 Speed Queen washers and dryers with several service options to make laundry day easier. - ➤ A 24-year-old man from Rockford was taken into custody after he allegedly shot at a clerk behind bulletproof glass on March 16th—detectives later executed a search warrant at his home on March 17th that recovered two firearms, including one reported stolen from Alabama, and his first court appearance is set for Tuesday afternoon. - ➤ The Rockford Area Pride Committee has named honorary grand marshals for the 2025 pride parade: drag performer Auntie Heroine will represent celebrate, Curt McKay will represent remember, and poet Jenna Goldsmith will represent unite. The parade will take place on June 7—community pride is honored with leaders rooted in local history. WIFR

- ➤ Yesterday, the intersection of N. Mulford Road and Executive Parkway was under construction — from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. — as City Public Works replaced a signal mast arm, which closed the northbound right lane of Mulford and stopped westbound traffic on Executive Parkway. Drivers were advised to detour north on Strathmoor Drive or south on Mulford Village Drive. WIFR
- ➤ Rockford City Council approved Monday the purchase of 46 new police vehicles from Rock River Ford for about $2 million as part of a five-year replacement cycle that will see older vehicles shifted to reserve status or sold. The city also authorized nearly $940k in police radios from Motorola Solutions Inc with an Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant covering $102,404 and the balance charged to the police department budget. - ➤ A flag-raising ceremony was held Tuesday at UW Health SwedishAmerican Hospital in Rockford to honor the lives of Ashley Russell and her infant daughter Tilly, whose organs were donated in late 2024.
