CULTURE NEWS

  • Rockford local Tim Larson built a 1,500-piece Disney memorabilia collection over five decades — starting with a family trip to Walt Disney World in 1972, he now features items such as a vintage Donald Duck book and park maps, as highlighted on WIFR Originals.  WIFR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rockford officials and IDOT will host an open house on Tuesday, Mar. 24 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Forest City Church (1280 S. Alpine Road) to discuss improvements to South Alpine Road and collect public feedback.  Rockford Register Star
  • Rock River Disposal will resume seasonal yard waste collection on Monday for Rockford residents. Residents must place yard waste with household waste and recyclables in approved containers (2-ply compostible paper bags or 32-gallon cans) and bundle larger brush per guidelines.  Rock River Current

HEALTH NEWS

  • A UW Health doctor has turned leftover crayons into tools for children and adults with disabilities. Dr. Amber McKenna received a grant & delivered 3,500 adaptive crayons to GiGi’s Playhouse on March 6, with 1,100 more to be sent to Central Wisconsin Center.  WIFR

SPORTS NEWS

  • Kaneland High School’s boys basketball team wrapped an outstanding season by finishing third in the state tournament this past weekend — after an unbeaten run ended in an overtime loss to Deerfield. Coach Ernie Colombe praised the players’ growth that brought the community together.  Northern Public Radio
