- ➤ The Rockford Symphony Youth Orchestra offered free concerts this spring with support from the Gloyd Family Foundation, kicking off its series on March 16 with higher attendance than usual. The orchestra will hold its next free concert on May 4 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Belvidere Performing Arts Center — the show will feature mostly movie music. Northern Public Radio

- ➤ Rockford Public Schools will open a new college and career education center this fall at 4151 Samuelson Road next to Jefferson High School. Students will remain at their assigned high schools but can ride buses to the center for career programs in fields such as graphic design and biomedical sciences—providing hands-on labs, specialized equipment, and certificate opportunities. - ➤ Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul warned fans yesterday to be careful when placing March Madness bets because unlicensed betting operators might steal personal information and money. He said only apps and websites licensed by the Illinois Gaming Board—who follow state rules—should be trusted and advised filing a complaint if fraud occurs. Northern Public Radio
