COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Rockford twin brothers Richard + Bob Lundquist celebrated their 90th birthday on Sunday, March 22 at noon at Lino’s on East State St as family, friends and community members honored their nearly century-long journey.  WIFR

CULTURE NEWS

  • Rockford Art Museum will host 'Melodies at the Museum' on Sunday night starting at 4 p.m. A select group from the Rockford Symphony Orchestra will perform live and speak with guests about the art on display (tickets cost $45 and sales begin at 3:30 p.m.)  WIFR

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Today, Boone County employers are invited to complete an online survey that asks about workforce challenges and training needs. The survey, launched by the Boone County Success Network and Growth Dimensions Economic Development, will guide future education partnerships and business support.  Rockford Register Star

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students from Keith Country Day School won first place at the IHSA State Scholastic Bowl Tournament on March 21 in Normal. The six-member varsity team (three seniors, two juniors, one sophomore) secured the state champion title by besting their academic competitors.  WIFR
  • Nearly 90 students from area high schools competed on March 20 in the 6th annual T & E Skills Competition at Rock Valley College’s Advanced Technology Center in Belvidere. The event featured automotive, engineering, cabinetry and welding challenges judged by nearly 40 local business partners.  WIFR
  • Stephenson and Winnebago County 4-H youth earned top awards at the Horse Bowl and Hippology Contest on March 14 at Sauk Valley Community College, and several participants will advance to state in mid-April after weeks of dedicated practice with coach Kelly Nestler.  Rockford Register Star

  • The Rockford IceHogs honored veterans and active-duty service members Sunday night during Military Appreciation Night at the BMO Center. Several World War II veterans were celebrated during the game as part of the tribute.  WIFR
