  • The Better Business Bureau warned Rockford fans to be cautious of ticket scams targeting buyers of Lollapalooza and the upcoming baseball season. Fans are urged to purchase tickets only from official box offices and secure websites—checking BBB.org ratings to protect their money and identity.  WIFR

CRIME NEWS

  • Rockford police arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of Chase Huggins, 27, who was shot at an after-hours event in a parking lot on E. State Street in August 2024 — a fourth suspect, a 15-year-old teen, remains at large.  WTVO
  • Four people are charged with murder after 27-year-old Chase Higgins was fatally shot in a parking lot on the 6600 block of E. State St on August 24th — Enrique Dozal, 21, Aarionte Mahone, 27, Jason Bryant, 29, and a 15-year-old — with Dozal and Mahone arrested on March 26th and March 25th and Bryant already in custody while the minor remains at large.  WIFR

CULTURE NEWS

  • Musician Kristin Lems from Rockford shared her family's ties to Jane Addams, who attended Rockford Female Seminary and helped found Hull House to support those in need. Lems, an educator and singer, is writing a musical about Addams that honors her grandmother's long volunteer work (including a rescue that shaped her family's legacy) during Women’s History Month.  Northern Public Radio

  • After Superintendent Doctor Ehren Jarret announced his upcoming resignation, Rockford Public Schools will soon start the search for a new leader—Transform Rockford urged the district to stick to its planned goals for steady progress and continued equitable access to education.  WIFR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rockford police are using new technology like gunshot detection, over a hundred license plate readers and FlockOS to track calls and monitor cameras. Starting April 1, officers will use GPS tracking (StarChase) to help stop fast chases and improve homicide solve rates from 89% to 94%.  WIFR

    The Rockford IceHogs and the Golden Apple Foundation are partnering for Teacher Appreciation Night at the IceHogs game on Friday, March 28, for the IceHogs 7 p.m. game against the Manitoba Moose! At the game on March 28, there will be additional ways you can support Golden Apple. All proceeds that night from the IceHogs 50/50 raffle and Spin-to-Win game will be donated to Golden Apple to aid in its mission to celebrate and support educational excellence in our community. March 28 is also a $2 beer and soft drink night at the IceHogs!
