  • Rockford Area Pride Committee has named Norm Knott + Shelton Kay + Lien Vu as honorary grand marshals for the Pride Parade on Saturday, June 6 with a reception at The LIAM Foundation at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 9.   • For decades, Mrs. Fisher's chips have used 2.6 million pounds of local potatoes a year to keep their classic taste, and vice president Chris Spiess leads the Under Rocks tour on the podcast to show how the chips are made — a nod to Rockford’s cherished tradition.  Northern Public Radio

  • Trucking companies in Rockford face rising fuel costs as diesel nears $5 a gallon; global tensions have cut supply routes and squeezed cash flows for fleets like Sutliff Trucking, which spends over $1m a year on fuel + raises freight charges to offset expenses.  WIFR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Crews will repair a water main on Rural Street and close the eastbound lane from Calvin Park Boulevard to Fairview Boulevard starting at 7 a.m. Monday — detouring drivers south via E State Street — while residential access remains open.  WIFR
  • Rockford Park District announced a $7.5 million upgrade at Clarence Hicks Sports Complex after community input + neighborhood park improvements across Rockford are planned to boost local sports and recreation programs + benefiting more families through 2025.  WIFR

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health officials in Winnebago County reported that ticks tested positive for the rare Powassan virus for the first time today; residents are urged to protect themselves by using EPA-approved repellents, wearing long clothing, and checking for ticks after outdoor activities.  Rockford Register Star

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Church leaders purchased 19 acres on Garrett Lane from Rockford Senior Campus for $2.4 million on March 6 to build a new church next year. The site, north of Home Depot, was once slated for a senior living campus & apartment development.  Rock River Current
