- ➤ The Hard Rock Casino donated $6,000 to the Rock River Valley Blood Center to help buy new blood mobiles for mobile blood drives. The donation was made during National Volunteer Blood Donor month—showing the casino’s ongoing support for the community. WIFR

- ➤ Winnebago County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 38-year-old Nicholas Myher on March 25 after a woman accused him of strangling her in a shed on March 23 — he fled in a Ford transit van after hearing her call 911. WTVO
- ➤ Allen Hawkins pled guilty to armed kidnapping on Friday—dropping charges including attempted murder—after a man was chased and beaten near Samuelson and Alpine and four others were already sentenced with one receiving a 10-year prison term and three receiving 180-day jail terms. WTVO

- ➤ During National Women's History Month, local music educator Kristin Lems shared how her family ties to Jane Addams have kept her legacy alive since her great-grandmother was helped at Hull House during a crisis. She showed artifacts and explained that decades of volunteer work inspired her new musical 'Saint Jane and the Wicked Wicks'—a story that spans 30 years of family history. Northern Public Radio

- ➤ Rock Valley College broke ground on its new Downtown West campus at 711 Green St. where two new buildings—a training center and a learning center—will serve students interested in automotive, truck driving, early childhood education, human services and criminal justice; construction is set to finish by fall 2026. - ➤ Rockford Police Department is partnering with the Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois State Police, and over 200 local agencies to increase enforcement of distracted driving laws during April's Distracted Driving Awareness Month. Officials said the effort will curb risks from phone use while driving, as nine Americans die daily in crashes involving distracted drivers — a measure that will push drivers to follow hands-free rules.
