- ➤ Rockford launched the Adopt‑A‑Drain program today to help residents reduce flooding by regularly cleaning storm drains along city streets — the initiative includes safety guidelines and proper debris disposal, with 112 drains already adopted and 52 pounds of debris removed. - ➤ Ishnala Supper Club (with ties to Rockford through its owners' local businesses) was named the 2026 Best of the Midwest Award by Midwest Living for its hospitality in Lake Delton, and it will reopen on April 8 for its 73rd season. Rockford Register Star

- ➤ Senator Dave Syverson urged Illinois residents to celebrate the 19th anniversary of Cheap Trick Day today, honoring the Rockford band (formed in 1973) known for its lasting impact on rock music. Rockford Sun
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Gas prices in the Midwest have risen to 3.71 per gallon from last week's 3.68, and analysts expect an additional 20 to 30 cents increase as traders factor in oil flow disruptions and growing spring demand. Rockford Register Star
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Rockford School District 205 enrolled 2,179 multiracial students for the 2024-25 school year, a 5.4 percent rise from the previous year. The district admitted 28,162 students in total, with Guilford High School (158 multiracial students) recording the highest count. Rockford Sun
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Natural Land Institute acquired 149 acres of farmland surrounding Beach Cemetery Prairie Nature Preserve near Davis Junction on March 17 & will host an open house tour on Sept. 9 from 4 to 7 p.m. It plans to restore non-tilled areas immediately and continue regenerative agricultural practices. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Loves Park police launched their Blue Envelope Program today to help people with autism and communication differences interact safely with officers, and residents may pick up envelopes with important documents at the police department, North Suburban Library, Superhero Center for Autism, and Bridgeway Inc. - ➤ Rockford’s Family Peace Center has helped nearly 3,000 survivors since opening in July 2020 and now serves as a model for future family justice centers across Illinois (HB4949 led by Representative Maurice West) which could expand support statewide. WIFR
- ➤ At a Tuesday night forum, local caregivers in Rockford urged lawmakers to raise wages by $1.20 an hour for direct support workers caring for people with disabilities. Lawmakers will review the proposals in the coming weeks, with potential federal approval needed before the increase takes effect in 2027. WIFR
- ➤ On March 31, an advisory panel recommended a new south Rockford Industrial TIF district that did not mention a potential data center, prompting residents to voice environmental concerns during the meeting at City Hall.
