COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Rockford Park District has begun a review to refresh the historic Sinnissippi Park Music Shell. Architects and engineers met this morning and firms must deliver concepts by April's end for a facelift focusing on the iconic arch & shell, with construction planned for later this fall or next spring.  WIFR

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Rockford Roasting Co. bought a downtown building for $400,000 and plans to open a second location at 501 E. State St where owner Benjamin Chauvin will consolidate coffee roasting and pastry production. The new space will offer an expanded menu + extended service hours for breakfast and evening.  Rockford Register Star
  • Woodward Inc. announced it will move its servo-hydraulic control valve production from Santa Clarita to its Rock Cut facility in Loves Park over the next 12 to 18 months — affecting 300 jobs while keeping the California site active for other aerospace controls.  Rockford Register Star

CULTURE NEWS

  • Hard Rock Casino Rockford held a Cheap Trick Day event on April 1, 2026, giving away 1,053 limited edition posters including 53 signed by Rick Nielsen to honor the band’s 53 year legacy. The celebration continues tonight with tribute band Dream Police performing at 7 p.m. on the casino stage.  Rock River Current
  • Hundreds gathered at Hard Rock Casino Rockford for Cheap Trick Day, where 1053 posters were given away and a VIP screening of the short film Rick's Picks featured a Q&A with Rick Nielsen and his family, honoring the rock band that formed (53 years ago).  WIFR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The YMCA of Rock River Valley will expand its youth literacy program today with a $25,000 grant from the Derry Family Foundation, adding a sixth instructor to serve 60 youths weekly and hosting family literacy nights for 50 local families.  Rockford Register Star

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Local realtors say Rockford’s housing market will show steady price growth and more buyer choices in 2026 as inventory rises. Realtor Shae Savalick and a local report note easing mortgage rates and affordability, plus a 41% jump in listings since last February makes the market increasingly attractive.  WIFR

SPORTS NEWS

  • A League of Their Own cast members will visit Rockford for an AAGPBL reunion on Thursday, July 23 and Friday, July 24. The event offers meet and greets, autographs and photo ops and occurs during the Women’s Baseball World Cup Group Stage at Beyer Stadium from July 22 to 26.  WIFR
