COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ City leaders have proposed a multi-use bike path along Highcrest Road that will connect neighborhoods and improve safety on a busy road. The project, which runs from Spring Creek Road to North Alpine Road (estimated at $6 million), is set to begin construction in 2027. WIFR
- ➤ A local man won $1M on a scratch-off ticket from Gas Depot at 4900 W. State Street after the clerk confirmed his win + the station will receive a $10,000 bonus; he said he might share part of his winnings with family and buy a performance car. WIFR
- ➤ Rockford’s Severson Dells Nature Center - marking 50 years - will be renamed Wild Roots Nature Center on July 1 after acquiring the former Elliot Golf Course at 888 S. Lyford Rd, and it will offer new hands-on nature education programs at its Montague Road site and Prairie’s Edge branch. WIFR
- ➤ Brightpoint is hosting the Stuff the Bus event to collect diapers, formula, and wipes for the Rockford crisis nursery at Rockford Sam’s Club (7151 Walton St.) today and tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Donations of baby supplies and cash are welcome. WIFR

ECONOMY NEWS

- ➤ Crusader Community Health bought a former Walgreens on E State St in March to convert it into a women’s health center. The center will replace services from its Broadway location and a groundbreaking ceremony is planned in the coming months. WIFR
