- ➤ Platt Hill Nursery held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at its new 6101 E. Riverside Blvd. location in Rockford on Friday, Apr. 3 (former Village Green site). The family-run nursery, employing 45 (and known for expert garden advice), kicked off grand opening weekend. Rock River Current
- ➤ Rockford Roasting Co. purchased the former Taco Libre restaurant (501 E. State St.) to consolidate its roasting and commercial kitchen operations. The company will use the building to launch Eachother, a new brand focused on curated coffee tastings, with more details coming soon. Rock River Current

- ➤ Rockford Vintage Fest returns to Mercato by Lino’s in Loves Park on Saturday, April 4 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. where more than twenty vendors will offer vintage clothing, jewelry, collectibles and home decor for free admission. WIFR
- ➤ Rockford entertainer Marcos Lara is hosting El Paraiso Noche de Comedia today at 8 p.m. at El Paraiso Lumbre Y Mar Restaurant in Loves Park — inviting all to enjoy Spanish language humor regardless of fluency with comedian Jose Alfredo headlining and Peter Daniel as featured comic. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ According to the Illinois State Board of Education, Pecatonica Community Unit School District 321 reported 42 multiracial students enrolled for the 2024-25 school year (13.5% increase from last year); the district served 862 students with its community middle school recording the highest count. - ➤ Winnebago Community Unit School District 323 enrolled 1,232 students, including 67 multiracial students & a 3.1% rise from last year in the 2024-25 school year, according to the Illinois State Board of Education. Rockford Sun
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Conservationists are set to restore a historic prairie as the Natural Land Institute acquired 149 acres around Beach Cemetery Prairie to help native species thrive. An open house tour is scheduled for Sept. 9 — from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. WIFR
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office has hired licensed clinical social worker Ashley Kohanyi to provide on-site mental health support for staff exposed to traumatic cases; she will offer free counseling and resilience training — including strategies to manage stress and compassion fatigue—with therapy dog River aiding in calming anxious minds. - ➤ Work will start Monday, April 6 on Illinois 70 from Safford Road to Glenwood Avenue for a $1.4M project that includes milling, pavement patching, ADA improvements and traffic signal modernization; work is expected to continue through August depending on weather + drivers should follow posted lane closures.
