  • Tinker Swiss Cottage faces crumbling bluff + safety issues as erosion worsens from a leaky pipe. The museum aims to raise $600,000 from donors, federal grants, and state funds so repairs can start in 2027 to protect this local landmark.  WIFR

EDUCATION NEWS

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Severe storms are expected today, so residents should check local alerts on the First Alert Weather app and on TV — a key source of real-time updates— and be ready to take shelter immediately.  WIFR
  • Storms battered the area Friday evening, causing damage in Rockton and Roscoe and leaving 1,869 without power while cleanup continued in Winnebago County and residents needing shelter used Roscoe Middle School.  WIFR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rockford crews will begin a city-wide pavement striping project Tuesday, Apr. 21 on selected roads in the northwest quadrant, and additional streets will be striped through June to August — drivers are advised to slow down near work areas due to longer paint drying times.  WIFR

HEALTH NEWS

  • Yesterday, UW Health SwedishAmerican Hospital held an organ donation flag-raising ceremony outside its Critical Care Unit Atrium in Rockford, honoring lives saved and raising awareness for patients still waiting for transplants. Hospital staff said the annual event during National Donate Life Month underscores the legacy of donor generosity.  Rock River Current

  • The annual Puri Champions Cup & College Showcase brings 330 teams and 16,000+ players and fans to local fields from April 17 to 19. Organizers shifted some games due to rain and used new turf at Clarence Hicks Sports Complex to keep the tournament running smoothly.  Go Rockford
