CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Rockford police said K-9 Andii (shot in her shoulder and paw) is doing well after being injured on April 19 in the line of duty, and a 38-year-old man from Madison has been arrested for the shooting (her ballistic vest saved her life). WIFR
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ This fall, the Coronado Theatre will screen the original Rocky Horror Picture Show at 7:30 p.m. on October 16 + offer interactive audience participation as part of its 50th anniversary celebration. The event will also include a live shadow cast, a pre-show costume contest, memorabilia display and an after-show dance party with appearances by Barry Bostwick and Patricia Quinn. WIFR

EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ During the 2023-24 school year, 51.6% of students in Durand Community Unit School District 322 passed the English language arts portion of the IAR—an 8% increase from the previous year—and 101 of 196 students met or exceeded the expectations. Rockford Sun
- ➤ At Shirland Community Consolidated School District 134, 51.6% of students passed the math IAR in the 2023-24 school year and that rate increased by 12.2% from last year—66 students took the test at the school in Winnebago County, according to the Illinois State Board of Education. Rockford Sun
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Winnebago County and Region 1 Planning Council finished a draft of a traffic safety action plan funded by a USDOT Safe Streets and Roads for All planning grant that outlines dangerous roadway segments and intersections in the county—Rockford is also working on its own plan while the county asks for public feedback on theirs. - ➤ The Winnebago County Soil and Water Conservation District donated bare-root shrub seedlings to anyone who purchased a vital record or applied for a marriage license at the county clerk’s office. These seedlings — red bud, yellow birch, sugar maple, canaan fir and Colorado blue spruce — were available on April 22 in room 104 at 404 Elm Street on a first-come, first-served basis. WIFR
- ➤ Congressman Darin LaHood visited Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Rockford campus on April 21 to mark its 75th anniversary and toured the facility while meeting employees. He said local innovation—demonstrated in protein analysis and other research areas—can boost future opportunities. WIFR
