- ➤ Rockford Art Museum and Discovery Center Museum are hosting the Impressionists: Immersive Exhibit through May 11 — offering local visitors a new way to experience classic art. Urban Equity Properties bought part of the historic Chick House Hotel building to turn it into loft apartments and businesses, and demolition is underway at a former elementary school. - ➤ At Midway Village Museum in Rockford, Margo Jakobs told the story of her family’s survival of World War II on Sunday during the annual Community Yom HaShoah Commemoration Program. Jewish Federation Executive Director Goldie Pekarsky said the event—intended to keep these important memories alive—helped the community learn from its past. WIFR
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Rockford Promise held its third annual Promising Futures event at the Coronado Theater, awarding 203 local graduates full ride scholarships to attend Rockford University, Rock Valley College, Northern Illinois University — and Saint Anthony’s College of Nursing. By next fall the program will have 570 college students enrolled and has seen 159 graduates since it began in 2016. WIFR
- ➤ The Illinois State Board of Education reported that 23% of students in Rockford School District 205 met or exceeded ELA IAR expectations in the 2023-24 school year. The data showed wide performance differences among schools — a trend that may prompt further academic review. Rockford Sun

- ➤ Cities in Winnebago County had 305 lawyers in good standing in the first quarter (a drop from 306 last quarter), and Rockford led with 284 lawyers (those with no complaints or disciplinary actions) as reported by the ARDC. Rockford Sun
