EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Nine Guilford High School students committed to serving in the U.S. military at a local ceremony in Rockford as family and friends cheered them on. Eight signed up with the National Guard and Marines while one enrolled in the Coast Guard, with training to begin soon. WIFR
- ➤ Illinois House Minority Leader Tony McCombie has launched an essay contest for students in grades 6-12 in the 89th District to reflect on America’s history. Essays must be between 200 and 500 words, are due May 31, and the winner will be recognized in June. Rockford Register Star
- ➤ Family run Spider on Quinta opened its new creative venue Tuesday, May 5 at 1111 Fifth Ave. The space now hosts educational workshops and live events and will soon offer a roofing academy to train local youth. Rock River Current
