ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Rockford Fire Department responded to reports of a person in the water beneath the Jefferson Street Bridge on Wednesday morning, and rescue teams reached the scene around 9:10 a.m.—the victim self-rescued and was evaluated by paramedics with no further update on their condition.  WTVO

CRIME NEWS

  • Rockford police arrested Stewart Coleman-White (40) for aggravated battery in a public place and domestic battery causing bodily harm after he allegedly stomped on a woman's head on May 6 on School Street.  WTVO
  • Rockford police arrested a 21 year old man after stopping a car at Court and Grace Streets at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday night and finding a stolen gun with two loaded ammunition magazines — he was booked on charges of aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, and no valid Firearm Owner’s Identification.  WTVO
  • A 16-year-old from Rockford faces multiple charges after police discovered him with a loaded handgun with an extended magazine and laser light attachment, roughly 35 grams of cannabis, and no valid FOID near 11th Street and 5th Avenue on May 6—he is now in juvenile detention.  WIFR
  • Rockford police arrested a 21-year-old man on May 6 near Court (and) Grace streets after a traffic stop when officers found two loaded magazines and a stolen handgun, and he now faces charges for aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and no valid FOID.  WIFR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Winnebago County Highway Dept. and the Greater Rockford Airport Authority will widen Kishwaukee Road between Airport Drive and Beltline Rd. on Monday, May 12—drivers should expect one lane at times as the project, which includes asphalt resurfacing, shoulder paving and pavement markings, is set to finish by Friday, June 13 weather permitting.  Winnebago County
  • The Illinois Department of Transportation is launching its Start Seeing Motorcycles campaign as warmer weather draws more riders, urging drivers to check blind spots—motorcycles form only 3% of vehicles but contribute to nearly 14% of traffic deaths. Statewide signs will be displayed to help both drivers and riders follow safety tips.  WIFR
