- ➤ Dan Ross announced he will leave his role as president of the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois on May 23—he has accepted a new job as CFO at the Bill Doran Company after nearly five years leading the nonprofit. The board will soon work with an executive search firm to hire a new president to continue serving the Rockford community. Rock River Current
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Stellantis has scaled back its nearly $5B plan in Belvidere by canceling a joint battery plant & parts hub and will move forward with producing a midsize truck in 2027. The company said it will reopen the Belvidere Assembly Plant to run two shifts with 1,500 workers. Rockford Register Star
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On May 7th around 10:47 a.m.—Rockford Police arrested 70-year-old Harold Iverson at Faust Landmark Apartments after he allegedly slapped a woman in the mouth, injured her, and later threatened to kill her—and he now faces charges of aggravated battery of a victim over 60, domestic battery causing bodily harm, and criminal trespassing. - ➤ A Rockford teen died from a shooting early Friday morning when he arrived at a local hospital around 12:20 a.m.—police have not made any arrests as their investigation continues. WTVO
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ 815HORTS festival partners with the Illinois Film Office to host Shortcuts, a contest for films by students or residents 22 and under that awards $250 and a screening. Submissions are open until August 31—festivities in Rockford will continue with the film festival on Nov. 14-15. WIFR
- ➤ Illinois Film Office invites filmmakers under 22 to submit short films for its Shortcuts Short Film Contest + follow the official guidelines for entry. The contest offers a top prize of $250 + a screening at the 815HORTS festival in Rockford scheduled for November 14 and 15. WTVO

- ➤ The county highway department said White School Road between Rockton Road and Prairie Hill Road will be closed from May 14 through May 16 for a culvert replacement—drivers should plan for alternate routes as work may be delayed by weather. Winnebago County
- ➤ The Veterans Assistance Commission cut its transportation service for veterans due to a budget shortfall but partnered with Rockford-based Seabreeze— a non-emergency service with 17 accessible vehicles— to ensure 40 local veterans keep getting rides to their medical appointments. The new partnership will help maintain safe transportation for those veterans amid past funding challenges. WTVO
