- ➤ On Saturday, May 9, more than 60 drivers competed at Maggio’s Truck Center for the 40th Annual Professional Truck Driving Competition, testing their precision & safety during various challenges and battling for trophies. Winners will advance to a state competition in Tinley Park in June. WIFR
- ➤ Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful partnered with Goodwill of Northern Illinois for clothing drives on Saturday, May 9, where residents donated clothes, pillows and bedding at locations in Roscoe, Loves Park, and at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. A spring donation drive — scheduled Friday, May 15 at Rockford Goodwill on E. State Street — will support the community with another drive planned for fall. WIFR

- ➤ Tonight, the Rockford Symphony Orchestra marks 250 years of American heritage with a concert featuring works by Jessie Montgomery, Leonard Bernstein, Jeff Midkiff, and Aaron Copland — followed by an onstage after-party at the local venue. WIFR
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Rockford University held its 172nd commencement Saturday morning at the Coronado Performing Arts Center, with over 250 graduates receiving diplomas. The ceremony honored diverse achievers, including first-generation students, international students & adults returning to school. WIFR

- ➤ The Forest City Nurses Honor Guard held a 'Living Tribute' at Wesley Willows assisted living on Friday to recognize retired nurses during National Nurses Week — honorees received a white rose, nursing cape blanket, pin, and certificate for their lifelong dedication. WIFR
