- ➤ On Saturday, May 10, Rockford community members planted thousands of flowers and removed weeds at Veterans Memorial Circle—located at the roundabout at Main and Auburn Street—to honor veterans and their families. Volunteers said they will continue watering the memorial throughout the summer. WTVO
- ➤ City First Church held its first summer block party on May 10 near Haskell Elementary School, offering free meals, inflatables, face painting & giveaways to bring families together. The church will host block parties on the second Saturday of each month from May through August with 250-350 people expected at each event. WIFR

- ➤ Rockford's S.A.D Fest returned Saturday to boost the local music scene and raise awareness about mental health. Event founder Lizette Vega said a Dream Artist Award was presented, and Mayor Tom McNamara gave a challenge coin—uniting the community through music. WIFR
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ During the 2023-24 school year, 66.4% of students in Pecatonica Community Unit School District 321 failed the math portion of the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR), up 1.5% from the previous year. District schools in Winnebago County continue to show math scores that are below state standards. Rockford Sun

- ➤ The Illinois Liquor Control Commission offers tips for a safe prom night by urging parents to talk with teens about the risks of underage drinking + encouraging teens to avoid alcohol and drugs while staying together with friends.
