- ➤ Rockford held its first Mimosa Festival under the summer City Market pavilion as event coordinator David Murphy partnered with Wired Cafe to bring in food trucks and vendors—organizers noted a line stretching a couple hundred feet past The Music Box—as adults enjoyed a relaxed day in the city. - ➤ Midway Village Museum in Rockford hosted a community event that recreated a Rockford Peaches game with fan seating, concessions, and a merch stand while also showcasing a Peaches exhibit. Attendees learned about the women's pro baseball team—who played 12 seasons and won four league titles—during the celebration. WIFR
- ➤ In Durand, community members and local leaders unveiled a Gold Star Memorial Block honoring seven local heroes on Saturday’s Memorial Day weekend (Durand American Legion Gold Star Post 676 helped organize the project). The memorial is installed on the 200 Block of South Street (located at the Dayton and South Street area), preserving the legacy of those who served our country. WIFR

- ➤ Rockford Police arrested 23-year-old Kalen Dismuke for aggravated battery by discharge of a firearm after he allegedly shot a 21-year-old man at the Fas Fuel gas station at 3302 11th Street on December 15 — the suspect reportedly tried to steal the victim’s Chrysler 300 and fled in a black sedan. - ➤ Illinois State Police and IDOT are launching the Click It or Ticket campaign to reduce seatbelt law violations and impaired driving as summer approaches—officials urge drivers and passengers aged eight and older to buckle up to prevent fatal crashes. WIFR
- ➤ Winnebago County collected about $11.4 million in Countywide Sales Tax in 2024—up from around $10.9 million in 2023—and the revenue is allocated for county government services. Rockford Sun
