BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Bufalo Family Laundromat opened its new location in Loves Park at 6202 Forest Hills Road on Monday, June 16 — it offers coin-operated machines and drop-off wash, dry and fold service seven days a week. The family transformed the former Betty’s Square Dance and Western Wear into a clean facility — and plans to add food trucks next month as it prepares for a third laundromat.  Rock River Current

CRIME NEWS

  • Two 17-year-olds allegedly invaded a home on London Avenue at 3:15 a.m. Sunday armed with shotguns and were later found hiding in a basement on Greenwood Avenue — they have been arrested and face charges of home invasion, possession of stolen property, trespass, and aggravated unlawful possession of a firearm.  WTVO
  • Rockford Police arrested Logan Nolan, 20, after he crashed a stolen car—used in an armed robbery—on June 14th and found a loaded handgun and drugs on him.  WTVO
  • Rockford police arrested a 14-year-old on June 13 after reports of vehicle thefts led to his detention; he is charged with aggravated battery in a public place, attempted vehicular hijacking, burglary to vehicle possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of burglary tools—he was apprehended on 18th Avenue after an attempted auto theft on 16th Avenue.  WIFR

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is asking for volunteers to count wild turkeys this summer — volunteers will report counts of young, adult female, and adult male turkeys with the county and date from June through August to help track the birds' health.  WIFR

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Ironman 70.3 Rockford race is set for this Sunday with about 2700 athletes competing as several downtown roads will be closed and Rock River water is tested daily for safety. Race Director Eric Atnip urges athletes and spectators to check their guides & follow road signs as local officials expect the event to boost the economy by 8-million dollars.  WTVO
  • More than 300 cars gathered at Byron Dragway on Monday, June 16 for Day One of Sick Summer 2025—drivers raced in 26 categories on a quarter-mile track. The competition will continue with events across Iowa, Wisconsin and Illinois and conclude on Friday, June 20 at Byron Dragway—finalizing the awards ceremony.  WIFR
