- ➤ Jersey Mike’s will open a new sandwich shop at Loves Park Crossings, located at the corner of Forest Hills and Riverside Blvd on the former K-Mart outlot. - ➤ Rockford police are investigating a report of a barricaded man on the 1500 block of Burton Street — the public is asked to avoid the area while the incident unfolds. WIFR
- ➤ Rockford Police negotiated with a barricaded man in a home on Burton Street from Wednesday afternoon after a shots fired call at 9:30 a.m.—officials set up tape at the N. Court and Burton intersection and asked residents to avoid the area. WTVO
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Local groups including Midway Village Museum and Veterans Memorial Hall and Museum of Winnebago County have applied for Rockford to be named a World War II Heritage City through the National Park Service's American World War II Heritage City Program — the application highlights the city's key wartime contributions such as Camp Grant, USO centers, and local manufacturing that supported the war effort. - ➤ North Alpine Road's outside lanes between Brookview and Highcrest were closed for construction on June 18 and delays still affect traffic. Drivers are advised to take alternative routes since the city has not given a completion date (further updates will follow). WTVO
- ➤ Moate Road resurfacing will begin Tuesday, June 24 between IL-70 + IL-75 and is expected to finish by Friday, July 18, though weather may extend the work. Drivers are advised to use alternate routes during the project. Winnebago County

- ➤ The Rock River will be closed from 4 a.m. to noon on June 22 for the IRONMAN competition as swimmers will complete a 1.2-mile route starting near the Rock Guardians sculptures and ending at Davis Park. Law enforcement and event personnel will manage the closure and traffic restrictions from (Auburn Street Bridge to Walnut Street Bridge). WIFR
