- ➤ Rockford Police arrested Tyvionne Horton, 25, on June 18 after surveillance footage showed him allegedly shooting at a man sitting in a car near Vinny’s Pizza on May 13 at around 9 p.m. on the 4100 block of Newburg Road—officers later found a handgun in his vehicle and charged him with two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm at an occupied vehicle. - ➤ Local officials in Rockford and nearby communities will propose to keep the 1% grocery tax after the state ends its collection on Jan. 1, 2026 — the tax currently funds vital services with cities like Machesney Park and Loves Park expecting up to $250,000 and $600,000 respectively. Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara warned that losing the tax could cut city funding by $6 to $8 million, with a decision set for discussion on Monday. Rock River Current
