  • Rockford’s first IRONMAN 70.3 honored more than 1,500 volunteers when they gathered Monday afternoon at Indoor City Market for food, drinks & music. Penalty tent captain Brian Stubbs, a former Chicagoland racer and cancer survivor, said he & other helpers found volunteer work energizing.  WIFR

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Sunday night, a 26-year-old Winnebago man was killed on W Hy 81 near S Cty Tk T when a Ford F350 driven by a 30-year-old from Marion, Iowa crossed the center line and hit a Nissan Sentra—Ford occupants were taken to local hospitals with serious injuries as investigators continued to probe the crash.  WTVO
  • A 15-year-old girl was hit by a blue car that ran a red light at North Second Street and Ethel Avenue on June 20—she suffered a broken left leg and cuts, and the driver fled the scene.  WIFR
  • On June 20, 15-year-old Alice Hunt was hit by a blue car running a red light at the intersection of North Second Street and Ethel Avenue while riding her bike—she suffered a fractured tibia and other injuries that require physical therapy as police search for the driver.  WTVO

  • Yesterday, a mother-and-daughter team opened their second full-service salon and spa at 202 W. State St. in downtown Rockford, renovating the space to offer a range of beauty services including hair styling, skincare, and massage—an event marked by a ribbon-cutting with local officials in attendance. They plan to expand services in the future by adding treatments like fillers and renting extra chairs to new stylists.  Rock River Current

CRIME NEWS

  • Rockford police arrested four people including two 17-year-old juveniles on Friday night after a chase led to a car crash near Broadway and Parkside + officers recovered three handguns, one reported stolen, from the suspect vehicle.  WTVO
  • Braden Hogan rammed a Rockford police car around 11:20 p.m. on June 23rd when officers tried to stop him after a previous incident—he was arrested and charged with fleeing, criminal damage, resisting arrest, driving on a revoked license, and possession with intent to deliver cocaine—police said they found over seven grams of cocaine, drug paraphernalia, and cash in his car.  WTVO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A Rockford City Council committee advanced plans on Monday to extend a 1% grocery tax into next year, with a final vote scheduled for Monday, June 30—this tax is estimated to generate between $6 million and $8 million to support local services.  Rock River Current
