BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ PCI Pharma Services is building a 155,000-square-foot facility on Alpine and Linden roads in south Rockford to package specialty pharmaceutical devices for clinical studies. Construction began in May and the facility will open next June—initially employing 40 to 50 workers before expanding to up to 200 by year five. Rock River Current
- ➤ Stellantis said that laid-off workers from the Belvidere Assembly Plant will be recalled based on their seniority when new openings become available—no timeline has been set yet. The plant has been idle since 2023 and is planned to reopen in 2027 with two operating shifts. WTVO
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 58-year-old Rockford man, Anthony Johnson, was indicted Tuesday by a federal grand jury for allegedly robbing a post office employee at gunpoint on May 27 at the post office on Broadway — he was arrested May 28 on several charges and is set to appear in local court on July 22. WIFR
- ➤ At the Veterans Drop-In Center, Navy veteran La Verne Moss fought off a suspect who broke in over the weekend—damage included nearly $500 in losses and spoiled frozen meat while donations are needed, and suspect Jennifer Gibson appeared in court facing charges as the center will reopen tomorrow. - ➤ Rockford police said that Jennifer Gibson, 42, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after she broke into a veterans center over the Fourth of July weekend—she allegedly threatened veteran volunteer LaVerne Moss with a knife and punched her, causing property damage and letting food spoil. - ➤ A Rockford man, Nicholas Clark, was sentenced to 2 years’ probation after pleading guilty to aggravated battery for a brutal beating on August 24th at the former Bigfoot Lounge on S. Alpine Road—his son and co-defendant still face charges for attempted murder and aggravated battery. WTVO
