- ➤ Alpine Kiwanis Brat Days was canceled on July 12 due to severe weather, and officials said ticket holders should consider their purchases a donation to Alpine Kiwanis Charities + no refunds will be issued. WIFR

- ➤ The Illinois Paranormal Conference will take place at Veterans Memorial Hall, 211 N. Main Street from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., featuring speakers and vendors from the paranormal field with hosts Kathi Kresol and Samantha Hochman. Guests will join a paranormal investigation of Tinker Swiss Cottage from 7–11 p.m. — local investigators will teach basic techniques. WIFR
- ➤ Yesterday, Rockford hosted the Illinois Paranormal Conference at Veterans Memorial Hall with historian Kathi Kresol and museum executive Samantha Hochman leading the event. The conference featured noted paranormal researchers and authors—including Richard Estep, Larry Eissler III, and paranormal investigator AJ Gutierrez—and ended with a paranormal investigation from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Tinker Cottage. - ➤ In May, Rockford collected just over $5 million in sales taxes, ranking ninth among Illinois municipalities. Municipal sales tax made up the largest share and dropped 3.4% from the previous month—funds that support local services and projects. Rockford Sun
- ➤ Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul secured a $720 million settlement with eight drug companies for their role in the opioid crisis — the state will get $23 million and stop the sale of opioids above 40 mg per pill. Raoul said the deal adds to national efforts to hold manufacturers accountable and help families hurt by the crisis. WTVO
