CRIME NEWS

  • Rockford officers arrested William Crowe, 39, on charges of domestic battery, possession of burglary tools, trespassing, and property damage after he allegedly pried open a door with a crowbar, punched a resident, and took a dog from an apartment—witnesses confirmed his break-in.  WTVO
  • Rockford deputies arrested 27-year-old Latravious Robinson II—who was seen pushing a cart with two flat-screen TVs—near Best Buy on July 16 after finding a stolen U-Haul van, and he now faces charges for retail theft, possession of a stolen vehicle and drug paraphernalia.  WTVO

ECONOMY NEWS

  • ComEd hosted a seven-week paid job training where teens worked with mentors to build bed frames for children and earn certificates for clean energy jobs. The program — now in its third year — gives students hands-on skills to prepare for future careers in the growing energy field.  WIFR

  • Stacy Wallace, a Rockford STEM teacher at Thurgood Marshall School, shared on the new Teachers’ Lounge podcast today how her Project Lead the Way classes let students build solar backpacks and work with flight simulators + she is working toward earning her pilot’s license.  Northern Public Radio
  • Rockford Public Schools Superintendent Ehren Jarrett, credited with bringing stability to the district since 2013, will leave next summer to become Hononegah Community High School District 207's superintendent. He will begin on July 1 and sign a five-year performance-based contract with a 15% salary cut—while Rockford starts its search for a new superintendent by January 1.  Rockford Register Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On July 17th, 2025 the Capron Rescue Squad District board voted to stop ambulance service due to rising operational costs and staffing challenges—arranging for North Boone Fire Protection District to take over emergency care for Capron, Poplar Grove and nearby fire districts.  WTVO

HEALTH NEWS

  • State Representative Maurice West announced that Rockford will host a Community Health Fair on Saturday, July 19 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Crusader Community Health where local partners will offer free physical and mental health services — including car seat safety checks, food, music, and games.  WIFR

SPORTS NEWS

  • The largest state mountain bike racing series in North America, the Wisconsin Off-Road Series, is set to host the WORS #7 Border Battle at Atwood Park in Rockford on July 19 and 20. The event—also serving as the Illinois Mountain Bike State Championships—will start at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, drawing over 50 teams and 1,500 riders with partners including Trek Bicycles, Rockford Park District and GoRockford.  Go Rockford
