- ➤ Alpine Kiwanis canceled its annual Brat Days fundraiser after a flash flood damaged Rockford sites last Thursday. The organization sold cases of Johnsonville brats at Blain’s Farm + Fleet on Friday, and they sold out in less than two hours. WTVO

- ➤ NickelWorld reopened July 18th as QuarterWorld at 3321 N. Main St.—ending nearly 30 years of charging a nickel for games. Owner Kim Hachmeister said admission is now $2.50 with games costing 25 cents each while the arcade still offers free classic games for family fun. Rock River Current

- ➤ Rockford police arrested Aaron Owen on July 15 around 11 p.m. after officers pulled over his silver Volkswagen near Killburn Avenue and Auburn Street and found a fully loaded 3D-printed gun along with an open container of alcohol — he is charged with possessing a firearm without a valid FOID card. - ➤ Dushawn C. Stallworth, a 24-year-old man, was sentenced to 65 years in prison for first-degree murder after fatally shooting 21-year-old David Austin at Auburn Manor in Rockford on October 29, and he will serve three years of mandatory supervised release after his sentence. WIFR

- ➤ Children at Good Shepherd YMCA are thrilled by a new Bookworm Vending Machine donated by the Junior League of Rockford as part of its Literacy Leaders Project — which helps boost reading levels in local kids. - ➤ On July 18, 2025, Cherish Adams graduated from Rasmussen University at Stateline Church in Rockford after nurse Jeannie Joseph inspired her during a challenging NICU stay when she was 15. - ➤ Senator Syverson attended a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday at Darryl F. Lindberg Park in Rockford where members of the Rockford Buddy and Allstar baseball teams joined the event—showcasing features like accessible dugouts and paved pathways.
