  • Rockford drivers are frustrated with the new Loves Park roundabout near the Indoor Sports Center because many do not yield as intended—causing traffic flow issues that may reduce its safety benefits.  WTVO
  • Rockford food blogger Rachel Larson, known for Rockford Cravings, has been named executive director of the Rock River Development Partnership to manage the City Market, the Saturday North End Market, and The Market Venue at 116 N. Madison Street, replacing interim director Cathy McDermott who will return as finance manager + Larson brings local experience from working with places like the BMO Center and Coronado Performing Arts Center. She will build on a 15-year legacy of community market events that support local businesses.  WTVO

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The pilot, Alexander Leamon, 23 from Lena, died when his Cessna T188c crashed shortly after 9:30 a.m. July 22 in Mt. Morris — closing Illinois Route 64 and damaging power lines — as the FAA and NTSB begin investigating the incident.  WIFR

CRIME NEWS

  • Rockford Police arrested 47-year-old Stephen Booth on July 22 around 5 p.m.—after he attacked a woman and her dog with his belt on the 1600 block of Benton Street, leaving the victim with visible injuries and requiring hospital treatment while Booth was later found on the 1100 block of East State Street.  WTVO
  • A 29-year-old Rockford man was indicted on July 22 on 15 charges including counts of first degree murder for the shooting of a man found dead in a Freeport bedroom on August 17, 2024 — he is already in custody at Stephenson County Jail and faces a four-year prison term for an unrelated weapon charge.  WIFR
