- ➤ On Aug. 1, volunteers will install new gravestones for 36 Civil War veterans at Cedar Bluff Cemetery in Rockford at 1200 Rural St. from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.—descendants of the veterans will see the largest gravestone project ever led by 815 Stone Scrubbers before a formal dedication next month. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 23-year-old Rockford man allegedly rammed a police squad car on July 27 around 1 a.m. near a McDonald’s after his stolen vehicle was seen, and officers later found a loaded gun inside his car leading to charges including theft+unlawful auto possession+criminal damage+resisting arrest+unlawful possession of a weapon+no valid driver’s license. - ➤ A Rockford man named Jose Perez, 20, fled from officers during a weekend traffic stop near Ridge Avenue and Vernon Street around 6:45 p.m. Saturday and was later arrested when his vehicle was found on Midway Drive—officers recovered a loaded magazine in the car and a loaded handgun nearby, and he now faces charges for aggravated fleeing, aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon, and improper lane usage. - ➤ A 15-year-old teen was charged with theft, possession of a stolen auto, resisting arrest and having no valid driver’s license after police found him with a stolen car on Friday night in the 2500 block of Prial Avenue—he is now held at Winnebago County Juvenile Detention Center. WTVO
- ➤ A 34-year-old man was shot multiple times Sunday night on the 1700 block of Montague Street and taken to a local hospital where he is stable—police said no suspects have been detained. WIFR

- ➤ Harlem High School’s choir (Choraleers) will perform with rock band Foreigner on August 10 at Coronado Performing Arts Center after winning a contest against four other schools, and they will receive $500 to support their music program. WIFR

- ➤ A concrete skate park with a wooden 4-foot mini ramp is planned for Davis Park in downtown Rockford at 320 S. Wyman St—city officials delayed the vote on the project until August 11th amid mixed reactions from skateboarders and aldermen. Rock River Current
