  • Lockwood Park hosted its Back in School Fun Fair on Saturday—offering expanded animal storytime, a pony experience, horseback trail rides, and a free relay photo activity to mark the end of summer, with plans for Fall on the Farm in October.  WIFR

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A basement fire on the 500 block of Webster Avenue left a Rockford family displaced Saturday morning after a falling tree limb hit power lines and caused $40,000 in damage, with firefighters arriving at 11:40 a.m. — ComEd turned off the power while the Red Cross is helping the family find shelter.  WTVO
  • Firefighters responded to a blaze at The Laundry Bin in Roscoe on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.—the cause of the fire remains unknown.  WTVO
  • A GoFundMe page was started to help the family of 22-year-old Nych Spears, who died in a DUI crash in Winnebago County when his friend Anthony Moe lost control on Route 173—donors will help pay for his celebration of life.  WTVO

CRIME NEWS

  • Loves Park police arrested 35-year-old Terry Bailey-Mangruem on Aug 21 after pulling over a red Chevrolet Impala with a broken headlight near East Riverside & Wilson Avenue where officers smelled raw cannabis and found a loaded stolen handgun & additional cannabis, charging him with several felonies.  WTVO

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Crossroads Blues Society hosted its 16th annual blues festival at Lyran Park yesterday, drawing at least 1,000 people to hear artists like Chris Cain, Brandon Santini, Nora Jean Wallace and Stephen Hull—showcasing the blues' deep roots in American popular music.  WIFR

  • Dozens of kids and their families from Illinois and other states participated in the 10th annual walk at Peak Sports Club in Loves Park on Saturday to fight obesity, organized by Dr. Katrina Nguyen of Faithful-2-Fitness.  WIFR

  • Six thousand runners braved mud, freezing water, and electric shocks at the 10th Tough Mudder Chicago at Chicago Rockford International Airport on Saturday. The event ends today and offers options for 5K, 15K, and Infinity races—participants helped one another throughout the challenge.  WIFR
