CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Cameron Frazier, 29, of Rockford was convicted of first-degree murder after a jury found him guilty for fatally shooting 24-year-old Yashreanna Bell-Young in Loves Park four years ago at an apartment, and he faces additional time for a firearm enhancement with his next court date set for Sept. 18. - ➤ Rockford police said a man and his girlfriend were taken into custody on Saturday after a vehicle carrying two adult females and a child was hit by multiple bullets near Maple Street—both face charges of attempted murder and aggravated firearm offenses. WIFR

- ➤ A colorful Rockford sign found a new home along the west bank of the Rock River near the Rockford Public Library — it was moved from Davis Park to make way for new construction projects. Rock River Current
- ➤ GoRockford has installed 18 new sculptures across Rockford thanks to an arts grant from the city, expanding its CRE8IV program that began with 9 pieces in 2015. - ➤ Mercyhealth CEO Javon Bea accused Rockford of racial bias today after the mayor urged the hospital board to review a buyer with no proven record before selling Rockford Memorial Hospital—Bea said rejecting community offers and sidelining a local black entrepreneur risks harming progress on the west side. - ➤ The Illinois Department of Transportation began construction on E. State Street yesterday—between Rockford College Entrance Drive and Fairview Avenue—with lane closures and nighttime work for road patching, milling, resurfacing and sidewalk updates. The work includes signal improvements, inlet reconstruction and right turn lane widening and is expected to finish by the end of May 2026. WIFR

- ➤ Rockford was named the 9th most affordable housing market by the Wall Street Journal and Realtor.com on July 24th — the average home price hit $231,261 in July while inventory fell 41% to 180 homes.
