ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Saturday a fire broke out at a two-story home on North Avenue in Rockford — around 5 a.m. firefighters rescued five people who were taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries after the blaze was controlled in 20 minutes and the cause is under investigation.  WTVO
  • Rockford fire officials said a house fire on North Avenue early Saturday led to the rescue of two children and transport of five people to local hospitals—officials noted that injury details remain unclear as they investigate the incident.  WIFR

CULTURE NEWS

  • Chip Messiner kicked off his Acoustic Icons at Inscape concert series in Rockford’s Midtown District on Saturday—he played throwback country songs and shared stories behind hits by John Denver and Elvis Presley. The concert began a series that will bring more live music to the community.  WIFR
  • Screw City Beer Fest returned yesterday at the riverside lot at River View Icehouse in downtown Rockford — over 100 beer options and food vendors were available, with early check-in beginning at 10 a.m.  WIFR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. District Court installed a temporary security fence at 327 S Church Street amid reports that ICE agents will soon be active in Chicago — the fence helps keep courthouse access safe. Local officials said the permit is valid through September 13th — a protest rally is planned for Saturday to urge clearer federal communication.  WTVO
  • On Saturday, hundreds gathered near the federal courthouse in Rockford after Homeland Security set up a fence and Mayor Tom McNamara criticized the federal administration’s move—protesters voiced concerns over a potential surge of federal agents in Chicago while the fence could remain until later this month.  WIFR
