- ➤ Rockford Sexual Assault Counseling held its sixth annual Dispelling the Darkness candlelight vigil at Fisher Memorial Chapel at Rockford University where survivors shared their stories and sold candles to help fund free community services—this event aimed to break the silence around sexual assault. - ➤ Rockford’s 13th annual Stroll on State will take place on Nov 29 and will feature a parade, drone show, fireworks and a holiday 5K while food and retail vendors can apply until Oct 17 and parade entries are due by Nov 10 — volunteers can also sign up at Santa’s Workshop starting Sept 16. - ➤ The International Women’s Baseball Center has received $2.35M in grants to renovate Beyer Stadium — home of the Rockford Peaches — and add an indoor sports center and a women’s baseball museum designed by Jeanne Gang. City officials and local supporters say Phase One will be complete by 2026, with later phases expanding the site with upgraded seating, facilities and a park honoring Maybelle Blair. WIFR
