COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Sept. 19, the 30th Candlelight Remembrance Ceremony will take place at Loves Park City Hall Auditorium to honor veterans missing or captured during service for National POW/MIA Recognition Day. The Rockford Wind Ensemble will perform at 6:30 p.m.—the candlelight ceremony will follow at 7 p.m.  Rockford Register Star

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Hard Rock Casino Rockford was named Chicagoland’s Best in 13 categories by Casino Player Magazine’s 2025 Best of Gaming awards — it earned top honors for Promotions, Table Games, Dealers and the High Limit Room while also receiving runner-up and third-place finishes in other areas.  Rockford Register Star

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Sept 4, Pec Playhouse Theatre received a $150,000 grant from Winnebago County Board to help repair the building—its roof had collapsed in 2021. The campaign has raised over $1.6 million of its $1.75 million goal and will gather more funds as the theatre rebuilds in the industrial space on 3rd Street.  Rockford Register Star
  • Tickets are on sale for Hot Wheels Monster Trucks Live: Glow-n-Fire at the BMO Center in Rockford in March 2026—this event will debut the dynamite rhino-themed truck Rhinomite and feature never-before-seen stunts along with pre-show parties for closer fan interaction.  WIFR
  • The African American Gallery at Rockford’s Ethnic Heritage Museum will open its new exhibit Sunday that shows three local NFL players—Marshall Starks who played in the 1960s, Carlos Polk who played eight seasons and now helps coach, and James Robinson who set a rushing record in 2020.  WIFR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rockford will hold a public meeting on Sept. 30 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Forest City Church on S. Alpine Road to show plans for improvements along 2.5 miles of South Alpine Road from Linden Road to north of Charles Street. Residents can also submit feedback online or by mail until Oct. 15.  Rockford Register Star

HEALTH NEWS

  • Javon Bea Hospital — Riverside in Rockford was named one of America's 100 Best Hospitals by Healthgrades for the second year and ranked among the top 2% nationwide for its care in treating gastrointestinal and pulmonary conditions; nearby OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center also earned awards for patient safety and gastrointestinal surgery.  Rockford Register Star
