- ➤ Nicole Landreth has been named the new executive director of Rockford nonprofit Womanspace — she takes over after Elaine Hirschenberger's 50-year leadership to guide the organization in arts, holistic health, and interfaith programs. Rockford Register Star

- ➤ Rockford Fire Department said divers and around a dozen first responders searched near the State Street Bridge on Monday, Sept. 15 after witnesses reported someone slipping under the water in the Rock River. WIFR

- ➤ Salamone’s Italian Restaurant in Cherry Valley is set to be featured in an upcoming episode of America’s Best Restaurants Roadshow after a customer nomination, and filming began Monday with its Facebook page to announce the release date. WTVO
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Gas prices in Illinois dropped slightly on Sept. 15 to an average of $3.43 per gallon but were 2.4 cents higher than the same date last year. A survey of 4,378 stations showed the lowest price was $2.82 per gallon and the highest $4.79 per gallon—indicating a wide range across the state. Rockford Register Star
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Latham Road box culvert replacement will start the week of September 22—road closures will affect approximately 700 feet west of the intersection with Owen Center Road while adjacent property owners maintain side access. The work is expected to finish by October 15 if weather permits. Winnebago County
- ➤ State Senator Dave Syverson issued a statement that remembered former Governor Jim Edgar for his honest leadership and key work on balanced budgets and welfare reform in Illinois—he recalled their long friendship and his early support during Syverson’s first campaign. Rockford Sun
- ➤ Traffic has been affected since Monday morning as contractors closed the eastbound inside lane on W. Riverside Boulevard at Latham Street to repair manholes — officials say the work will finish by the end of day September 17, with drivers advised to take alternate routes. WIFR
