Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 28th of September.
Good morning, Rockford.
🏘️ Community
Yesterday, the annual Tour De North End bicycle festival began at 11 a.m. at The Olympic Tavern where Rockford residents registered for a $12 ride and joined a free block party featuring live music+food, drinks, and family fun.
Bikers rode a self-paced route from 1 p.m. until they returned by 5 p.m. to collect passport stamps at local stops that promoted bike safety and road-sharing.
🏛️ Government
The North Park Fire Department faced a critical shortage as ambulance calls rose by 11.25% to 2,500 this year, with only one ambulance in service due to a lack of paramedics and EMTs.
The department will seek more support through a tax referendum to hire additional staff.
