COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Several Rockford businesses and community groups are hosting food drives to help local food pantries and food banks with incentives like gift card drawings and extra donations rewards. Some drives run through November with one scheduled on Nov. 20 in Rochelle—residents can donate nonperishable items at designated locations.  WIFR
  • Christmas at the Farm returns to Belvidere on Nov. 7 with events running from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Nov. 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Meyer’s Tails Up Farm (5390 Irene Road), offering over 35 local vendors, live bonfire music, holiday decor, food trucks and a $7 admission fee—with free entry for children 12 and under—to support the Rockford Rescue Mission.  Rockford Register Star

BUSINESS NEWS

  • LacedUp 815, a premium sneaker shop owned by Zach Marrie and Dylan Boyd, will open its second location downtown Rockford soon—bringing urban clothing and the latest sneakers to the growing area.  WTVO
  • The Rockford City Council voted in favor of Dutch Bros Coffee’s proposal to build a store on E. State Street. The company will build its location in the Ashley Furniture parking lot at 7131 East State Street — a new project that will bring its specialty drinks to the area.  WTVO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Rockford Public Schools said Tuesday that 47 candidates applied to succeed Superintendent Ehren Jarrett — applicants came from 10 states and search firm BWP—Associates is reviewing the applications to pick five to seven semi-finalists on November 17. The board will choose the new superintendent by mid-December, with the role starting on July 1.  Rock River Current
  • RPS 205 reviewed the Illinois Report Card results at the Committee of the Whole Meeting—highlighting gains in English Language Arts, math proficiency, freshman progress, and graduation rates while noting that 10 local schools ranked in the bottom 5 percent statewide. Chief of Schools Dr. Morgan Gallagher said the review ensured the board understood how the state measures performance—supporting ongoing efforts to refine student support systems.  WTVO
  • More than 500 teachers from over 50 schools in Winnebago and Boone Counties have been nominated for the 2026 Golden Apple Awards — a total of over 1,550 nominations were submitted by parents, students and community members. Nominees will submit essays and letters of recommendation as a selection committee reviews 20 educators for classroom observations and interviews — five teachers will then be honored with a $1,000 cash award, a professional development stipend, a tech device and a Rockford University Scholarship at an Excellence in Education Banquet on April 24.  Rockford Register Star
  • Leaders at the Rockford Public Schools Board of Education said 47 candidates applied before the November 1 deadline for the next superintendent—BWP & Associates is reviewing applications and will present semi-finalists on November 17 with final interviews planned for mid-December. The new superintendent will begin work on July 1, 2026.  WIFR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Three graduates completed Winnebago County's Adult Drug Court program on Nov.4 at the courthouse during its 55th ceremony. The program has helped 768 participants since 1996 and offers treatment and regular court supervision — encouraging participants like graduate Ricky Harris to keep moving forward.  WIFR
  • Yesterday, the Rockford Fire Department swore in Rebecca Tyo as its 12th chief at Veterans Memorial Hall. Tyo said a moment when a burn victim thanked her for saving her life changed everything and she plans to improve response times, boost community engagement and support firefighter well-being — promising more training, mental health resources and better service.  Rock River Current
  • Rockford City Council approved demolition of the 113-year-old former Elks Lodge—Mayor McNamara broke a tied vote—to remove the building after its owner, Mark McInnis, did not meet court-ordered repairs. City officials said the $233,108 plan will eliminate a dangerous, blighted structure that risks first responder safety.  Rockford Register Star

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Rockford home prices hit a record high with a three-month average of $242,241—about 8% more than last September—while the number of homes for sale fell to 381. CEO Connor Brown said more sellers and new out-of-town buyers are driving this to be the fourth straight month of record prices.  WTVO
