COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Rockford Salvation Army is working with local businesses to build a large red kettle for the Stroll on State celebration. Mike Thompson of 425 Manufacturing said his team is using 3D printing with carbon fiber and heavy duty plastic polymer to finish the design by Nov. 19.  WTVO

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Scooter’s Coffee will open its first in-store location at Meijer in Machesney Park on Nov. 21 at 1700 West Lane Rd.—the first 100 customers will receive free drinks for a week via the mobile app and all shoppers will get complimentary swag while supplies last.  Rockford Register Star

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Keith Country Day School in Rockford received a $25K donation from the Kjellstrom Foundation to boost its dyslexia program—six more teachers will be trained and a new mentor teacher role will guide literacy support.  Rockford Register Star
  • The Boys & Girls Clubs in Rockford and Freeport each received a $10K grant from Comcast to expand youth digital skills training—Rockford’s club will boost its Great Futures program and Freeport’s club will grow its digital literacy offerings—and this marks Comcast’s ninth consecutive year of support in the region.  Rockford Register Star
  • The local 4-H program recognized members for hard work and leadership at Midway Village Museum on Sunday—awarding Champion Choice Awards for projects in animal care and STEM—while program leaders said the event builds tools for future careers.  WIFR
  • Twenty-four graduates from the College of Medicine at the University of Illinois received their degrees at the Coronado Theatre on Sunday, marking the end of years of training. They are now set to join the workforce as doctors and scientists working on vaccines, medications + treatments.  WIFR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Road work on 11th Street between Harrison and 18th in Rockford is underway to install new curbs, repair railroad tracks and lay fresh pavement with added sidewalks and a multi-use path — detours are in place and business access, deliveries and emergency services continue during daily intersection closures.  Rockford Register Star

HEALTH NEWS

  • Milestone Dental in Rockford received a grant from the Delta Dental of Illinois Foundation to expand dental care for patients with developmental disabilities—covering exams, cleanings and fluoride treatments for those without insurance or means to pay. The $270,000 award aims to close gaps in local oral health services.  Rockford Register Star

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Rockford restaurants are offering dine-in and carry-out Thanksgiving dinner options so families can enjoy a stress-free holiday meal without cooking at home. Customers must call ahead to place orders by mid-November for pickup on days like November 24 and November 27.  Rockford Register Star
