  • This weekend’s snowfall led to lighter traffic at downtown restaurants and shops in Rockford — local business owners reported a drop in customer visits during the busy holiday season. CULTURE NEWS

  • A painting discovered in Rockford was returned to its home in Bialystok by Tim Prince and Sarah Thistle this fall, and it is shown permanently at the Slendzinski Gallery. The work was created by Bernard Rolnicki during World War II in a Polish ghetto — proving a rare link to a forgotten piece of history.  Rock River Current

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rockford City Council approved liquor licenses on Monday for two new downtown venues that will open in early 2026 after receiving 12-1 votes. Palace Wine Bar at 202 N. Main St. will serve wines and spritzers while Cahoots Rockford at 505 N. Madison St. will offer arcade games, mini putt and duckpin bowling.  Rock River Current
